It exploded in popularity across the world as one of the most famous wines. What is it about Sauvignon Blanc?

What is it famous for?

Sauvignon Blanc grabbed the world's attention when it emerged from New Zealand’s Marlborough region in the late 1980s with now iconic labels such as Cloudy Bay. Before that, it was the grape associated with famous French wine regions such as Sancerre. 

Sauvignon Blanc is also famous for being best drunk when it is young.

Where does it grow?

In the Loire Valley (and Bordeaux) in France, in northern Italy, and in New Zealand.

Following the latter’s success with the grape, it is now grown all over the New World.

With Sauvignon Blanc's expansion across the world, it has perhaps been most successful in Chile and South Africa.

What does it taste like?

Fresh, green and grassy.
